Want to become a dental hygienist?
The dental job of a dental hygienist is one where your main responsibilities will include liaising with patients, assisting the principal dentist as well as managing patient databases. Experience in nursing would be an advantage but training can be given in this area. Your medical role would require activities such as general dental scaling and polishing of teeth, as well as the necessity to administer antiseptic agents. There is a need to stay up to date with latest advances in dentistry which have affected many Palm Beach dentists in terms of computerised and digital radiography and imaging. You will therefore be able to demonstrate an appropriate competency in working with computerized practice management software. Occasional reception duties will be necessary.
A dental hygienist would need to be over 18 years of age and have at least 5 GCSEs (A*-C). There is then the need to have a minimum of 2 A-levels which will most likely need to include English and a Science. Dental hygienists also need to attain nationally recognised dental nursing qualification or relevant dental courses. The attainment of a dental hygienist diploma through a dental course would then need to be next on your cards. There will most likely be a probation period to make sure you are good for the job and that you and the dental practice are suitable for one another.
